A WooCommerce catalogue that prices by the square metre
The WooCommerce store holds more than a thousand products across dozens of categories: decking boards, joists and frame profiles, screw piles, pedestals, fixings, tiles, carports and wood care. Terrace materials are bought by area rather than by the piece, so the price card carries two lines: one per square metre and one per board. Both come from the same product dimensions, so the catalogue and the product page cannot drift apart.
Goods sold by length show the second line per metre, flat goods per square metre, and which unit applies is set on the category rather than by hand on every card. Next to the price sit the stock line and the delivery time, so before anything reaches the cart the buyer sees both the cost and the availability.
A quantity calculator on the product page
A buyer knows the area, not the number of boards, so a quantity calculator sits under the price on the product page. The heading states how many square metres one board covers, and typing in an area fills the quantity field by itself. The link works both ways: change the quantity and the area is worked out back.
Quantities round up, because half a board cannot be bought, and picking another variant resets the maths: a board of another length covers another area, so the same terrace needs a different count. Under the fields sit the running total and the stock line, and the add to cart button stays in the same card, so there is nowhere to navigate.
A terrace calculator that leads to an estimate
The calculator is custom development and lives on a page of its own. The wizard goes step by step and asks only what the buyer already knows: the base and the shape, the dimensions, which side the door is on, which edges meet the house, and the boards and the frame. Questions that no longer apply are skipped, and the calculator picks the foundation type itself.
A live preview stands beside the wizard the whole time: a drawing with the edges, the area and the perimeter, redrawn after every answer. An unfinished terrace can be saved as a link, sent to a builder and picked up later. The admin panel shows how far visitors get, so the wizard can be shortened where it actually stalls.
A bill of materials the buyer never has to work out
This is the core of the project. The buyer gives the dimensions and picks a board, and the calculator works out the quantities: foundations, frame, boards, side cladding, fixings and screws. Board lengths are combined to keep waste and joins low, and low terraces are worked out differently from high ones.
The result is not an indicative price but a list of shop products with quantities, from the foundations to the last clip. One button turns that same list into a cart or an enquiry, and the detailed estimate arrives by email.
Delivery priced by distance and a cart for the kit
A terrace kit is not a parcel for a locker, so its delivery price is worked out from the distance and the region. We put the calculation into one solution built for the job, and before the switch we checked that buyers see the same delivery prices as before.
In the cart the lines of one terrace collapse into a single kit line, so nothing gets lost among hundreds of screws. Payment goes by bank or card, parcels travel by locker and courier, consent is collected by a banner, and quantity discounts apply on their own. A data integration also passes the products to a second site aimed at export markets, so the catalogue is written once.
